Gov’s 2005 Promises Almost Laughable If It Didn’t Hurt So Much

Jon Corzine promised to bring his Wall Street smarts to Trenton and put it to use creating jobs. Just look at this interview that aired on June 10, 2005 on NJN’s On the Record:

Today’s unemployment numbers give Governor Corzine another “F.” Unemployment spiked up 12% in February and now stands at the highest rate in 16 years and at a rate higher than the national average.

Employers are leaving because of high taxes, over-regulation and outright neglect. Jon Corzine has done nothing but raise taxes, impose more mandates, and make it harder to run a business in New Jersey and it will only get worse.

Corzine’s current budget not only increases taxes by $1.5 billion it raises taxes on business by instituting a new payroll tax and extending the corporation business-tax surcharge.

You can’t provide good jobs, with good wages for middle class New Jerseyans while attacking those who create those jobs.

Corzine: Global Warming bigger threat than Tax Hikes

It’s really unbelievable just how out of touch Jon Corzine is with small business and the middle class. Yesterday, Corzine actually tried to spin shore area business leaders that global warming is a bigger threat than his $1.5 billion tax hikes, including a new payroll tax, and cuts for tourism and beach replenishment.

The Press of Atlantic City reported,

“Corzine said people will continue to visit New Jersey because of its location and because it is less expensive than other destinations. Meanwhile, a bigger threat to the shore is climate change, he said.”

Oppose the Corzine $1.5 Billion Tax Increase Plan

Governor Corzine cannot lead New Jersey out of tough economic times by raising taxes on New Jersey’s middle-class working families and struggling businesses.

At a time when our economy is hurting and families are losing their jobs, their homes and their savings, Corzine is proposing to increase taxes by $1.5 billion by raising property, income and business taxes.

The Corzine $1.5 billion tax hike plan:

  • Raise property taxes $500 million by eliminating rebates for families earning over $75,000 a year,

  • Raise income taxes for middle class families by elminating the property tax deduction from the NJ Income tax,

  • Raise business taxes by $480 million by increasing payroll taxes and extending the corporate business-tax surcharge,

  • Raise income taxes by $350 million on the top tier tax bracket,

  • Increase taxes on cars, cigarettes, alcohol, and wine.

After seven years of tax increases (more than 100), a 50% increase in state spending, and a tripling of state debt, it’s time for all of us to draw a line in the sand and say “Enough!”
